The purpose of a Shipping Network Design Senior Manager is to oversee and manage the design and implementation of shipping services within an organization. This role is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective movement of goods from one location to another, while meeting customer expectations and optimizing operational processes.
- Strategy Development: Collaborate with senior management to develop a strategic vision and goals for the shipping services department. Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of shipping operations.
- Service Design: Develop and design shipping services that meet customer requirements and align with the organization's objectives. This involves analyzing customer needs, market trends, and operational capabilities to create service offerings that are competitive and profitable.
- Process Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvement within shipping operations. Streamline processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and implement best practices to enhance operational effectiveness. This includes evaluating existing systems and technologies, and implementing new solutions where necessary.
- Performance Monitoring: Develop and implement performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of shipping operations. Monitor and analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for cost reduction.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as customers, vendors, and logistics partners, to develop strong relationships and ensure smooth coordination of shipping activities. This includes negotiating contracts, managing vendor relationships, and resolving any issues or disputes that may arise.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with applicable shipping regulations, customs requirements, and industry standards. Identify and mitigate potential risks related to shipping operations, such as delays, damages, or security breaches.
- Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the shipping services department. Encourage innovation, creativity, and the adoption of new technologies and practices to enhance the organization's shipping capabilities.
Language requirements:
English – English and others if available
Background and experience:
- Shipping Operations: Significant experience (typically 8-10 years) in shipping and logistics operations is required, preferably in a managerial or leadership role. This includes experience in managing shipping processes, freight forwarding, transportation management, and customs compliance.
- Service Design: Proven experience in designing and developing shipping services, including service-level agreements, routing optimization, carrier selection, and customer experience enhancement. Familiarity with service design principles and methodologies is highly beneficial.
- Team Management: Demonstrated experience in leading and managing teams, including setting objectives, providing feedback, and fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture. Experience in cross-functional collaboration and managing remote teams is advantageous.
- Process Improvement: Track record of implementing process improvement initiatives within shipping operations, such as lean management, Six Sigma, or other process optimization methodologies. Experience in using data analytics and technology solutions to drive efficiency gains is preferred.
- Stakeholder Management: Strong experience in building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as customers, vendors, carriers, and regulatory authorities. Proven negotiation and conflict resolution skills are important.
