Finance Business Partner

Job purpose

To ensure meticulous financial control and reporting within the Liner/Feeder Shipping environment, overseeing revenue and cost capture, financial analysis, and effective coordination with operational and commercial teams.  

Main tasks and responsibilities

Revenue and Cost Management:

Ensure accurate capturing of revenue and cost by Vessel and Voyage in the Books of Accounts. Monthly reconciliation of Operational systems and Books of Accounts.

Financial Analysis:

Review BU/company’s financial performance, highlighting key variances and suggesting areas of improvement. Monitor and advise BU/Company Management Team on business issues impacting revenue, cost, and profitability. Challenge cost escalations for operational efficiency.

Business Support:

Provide ad-hoc analysis and support to BU/Company Management Team. Ensure finance system captures detailed data to support business analysis.

Coordination:

Collaborate with operational and commercial stakeholders to align Books of Accounts with operational and commercial reporting.

Reporting:

Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting of Financials to the Group consolidation team. Assist in preparing monthly management reports for Business Unit heads/Head of department.

Audit and Compliance:

Coordinate with External auditors and respond to External Audit queries related to Business Operations. Ensure compliance with necessary legal requirements.

Team Collaboration:

Assist other members in the Finance team to ensure overall team objectives are met.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

Accuracy of Revenue and Cost Allocation:

  • Ensure accurate capture of revenue and cost by vessel and voyage in the Books of Accounts.
  • Monitor and maintain precision in financial records to reflect operational activities effectively.

Reconciliation and Reporting:

  • Monthly reconciliation between operational systems and Books of Accounts.
  • Timely and accurate reporting of financial performance, highlighting variances and improvement areas.

Cost Efficiency and Business Impact:

  • Identify and challenge cost escalations to drive operational efficiencies.
  • Advise Management Team on business issues, focusing on revenue, cost, and profitability impact.

Stakeholder Coordination and Support:

  • Coordinate with operational and commercial stakeholders to align Books of Accounts with reporting standards.
  • Provide necessary support and ad-hoc analysis to Management Team for informed decision-making.

Educational Requirements

Graduate/ Masters level education, Good computer skills (shipping software, EBMS, Tally, finance module, related logistics/ shipping/ marine certification, MS Office – Excel)

Language Requirements
English – Fluent (required)

Background and experience

  • 4 years Supervisor Finance/ Assistant manager finance experience within Liner/ Feeder Shipping environment.
  • Knowledge of containers and its movement, trade lanes, port, harbor, pricing, customs and immigration activities and procedures, and necessary legal requirements
  • Knowledge of Terminal operating systems, shipping operations, vessel services and port rotations.
